| Eelctronic Damper Control Electronic damper control refers to the continuous, map-controlled adjustment of the damper settings in Phaeton and Touareg models with air suspension. The optimum damper setting is calculated based on several parameters at once. The electronic control unit adjusts the damping to match the vehicle's speed and the condition of the road surface, calculating the required setting based on the information it receives from the acceleration sensors at the wheels and on the body. The driver is also able to influence the damper characteristics manually, with a choice of the basic setting, a firmer sport setting and a softer comfort setting. Adding electronic damper control to the air suspension system therefore means extra ride comfort, driving pleasure and safety, plus improved handling capabilities when driving over loose surfaces or in off-road terrain. Ride height and damping adapt automatically to any vehicle load and to the full spectrum of on-road and off-road conditions, resulting in outstanding suspension characteristics and exceptional driving safety. The system is able to compensate for any body movements as well as dampen the pitching vibrations produced when towing a trailer very effectively. |
